1/12/2009 Long time no see! ^_^Firstly, happy New Year, people! Its 2009 already. Has been so for quite a few days already, actually. Welcome to a fresh new year, and a fresh start for all of us. Best wishes to everyone and I hope that you achieve your new year’s resolutions. They’re called resolutions for a reason. You have to be resolute to accomplish them. Don’t waver. Right. I haven’t put up a blog post in months. Not that there hasn’t been anything to type about. I’ve just been too lazy to do any blogging. ^_^ You might have noticed that I’ve changed the theme of my blog. I like it, but I might change it soon. It’s temporary, unless I can’t find anything better. You’ll notice a change in my blogging style. There will be more pictures. And since I haven’t blogged in like 2-3 months, expect this post to be very long. All the pictures in this post are taken by my handphone camera, so pardon the poor quality. You can click on the pictures for a better view. Oh, and I cleared out my guestbook, since all the posts were very old. I might get a Cbox to replace the guestbook, but for now, I'm sticking with the guestbook. I went out with some of E36K on the 22nd of Dec, pretty much right before Christmas. We went to Sentosa. Damn fun. Played beach volleyball, beach soccer, and also played monkey and captain’s ball on the sand. The others brought along a volleyball and a soccer ball, so we had tons of fun. They also went swimming in the sea, but I didn’t. Maybe next time though. I also helped to set up the Christmas tree in my house. Decorated it by myself too. It’s still standing, haven’t taken it down yet. I actually have a lot more pictures of my Christmas tree, just that it'll be too troublesome to post them all. I'm lazy. (: Then a couple of days after Christmas, a small group of us went and celebrated Marcus’ birthday at Jurong Point. He wasn’t aware of the birthday celebrations part until we whipped out a small cake for him. It was a surprise, and it went quite well, all in all. We watched Twilight that day too. Damn good movie. I loved it. The Cullens are cute. ^_^ I’ll give it a quick rating of four and a half stars now. I might post a better, and more detailed review of the movie in the near future. Went to the RP Open House 2009 on Saturday. Awesome. I was at the STA area, the DGD booth, if you can call it that. Edward, the facilitator in charge of my Game Design diploma course, was there as well. He told me that all the consoles are in! Now we have Xbox 360s, Wiis, and Playstation 3s! We have Guitar Hero World Tour and the drum set! Like Edward said himself, he’s afraid that our course will become popular for all the wrong reasons. ^_^ Can’t wait for our gaming nights. ^_^ It was very slack there, since not that many people came along, and Edward handled most of them, with me helping occasionally. Mostly by having Edward introduce me as a DGD student, then mostly have Edward talk. I spoke very little. xD So I
spent most of my time playing Halo 3, or watching others play. Mostly watching,
since we let the guests play it most of the time. Some kids, from a family, or
some groups of friends who came to the open house. There was also Marvel
Ultimate Alliance being played. Yeah, we had an Xbox 360 hooked up to a projector,
which projected the games on the wall. Quite big, and damn fun. The game being played on the wall is Marvel Ultimate Alliance. When I was done, I went and looked around at the other schools, mostly boring stuff. SEG had some interesting robots and stuff though, like an aircraft simulator, complete with plane cockpit. SAS and SIT were easily the most boring ones. No interesting stuff for display. Well, I didn’t look closely at the SAS area, but SIT most certainly was boring. SHL, next door to STA, had a tent in their area. Yeah, a tent. xD Ran into
Sheila and Angeline at the SOH area, where the two of them were helping out at.
I tried to get a shot of them for my blog, but Sheila dodged. My guess is that
she doesn’t like to be photographed in makeup and her formal uniform. So no
pics of them. Well, no close ups, at least. I caught them in my overhead shots
of the SOH area, though they’re so small, you can’t tell which of the people in
the pictures are them. xD I had
lunch with them, and then hung out at the SOH booth for a while several times
during the whole day. Spoke to Rick and Edie while there. Figured out their
game in a matter of seconds. xD The rest of the day was mostly spent in the
library, using RP’s electricity instead of my own. Played games for a while,
was on Facebook for a while as well. Borrowed a book on Front Office Operations
and Management to study, quite interesting.
I took my overhead shots of the SOH area while I was there, since I
found a nice spot overlooking the SOH area. I think Sheila and Angeline saw me,
though. xD And yes, I'm biased towards SOH, that's why they have more pictures. :D Really can't tell which ones are Sheila and Angeline, right? Only I know, lol. Ran into
Jocelyn and Ummu over the course of the day as well. I spent some time watching
the hip-hop competition performances at the South Agora stage. They were mostly
pretty damn good. Didn’t stay to find out who won though. Ahead of me is my second last week of school, and also a week of boredom. I'm trying to acquire the ingredients for the Rayman Raving Rabbid cookies recipe I found on the Internet, then I need to find time to bake them. Then there’s Project R.I.C.E on the 17th and 18th, Saturday and Sunday. After that, I’ll be mostly skipping the last week of school, I think. And I’ll most likely apply to work in Sentosa. I need the hospitality/tourism job experience. And the cash. xD Even if not Sentosa, I’ll certainly get a job that’s hospitality/tourism related. Finally, to end off my first post in months, I’m gonna ask the few readers of my blog to visit the link below, since I told Sheila I’d help her spread the vid around. I’m helping Sheila help her friend. It's for a university school video project competition they need to qualify for. It won’t take long, and you don’t even have to watch it, if you don’t really want to, just go to the page. They need the views, since they have to hit 4000 to qualify. Oh, and one last thing. Look out for more changes on my blog soon. ^_^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD8bWuYW17o
9/28/2008 I'm alive! ^_^I haven't posted anything in a long time. Been lazy, and tired out by school. Okay, so just so everyone knows, I'm still alive! xD For those of you disappointed, too bad. :P
Well, okay, not much has really been going on these days. Well, there is one thing, but I don't wish to speak of it for now. There ARE other things to speak of though. Last Friday, I went out with De You and Sheila after school. They somehow didn't meet me in RP, so I went with Hakim to meet them at the MRT station. We went on the same train as Hakim. Chatted all the way to Bugis while on the train and while changing trains. Hakim chatted with us until he left for home at CCK station. We went to Bugis for dinner and shopping. We ate at Pastamania. Ordered a pizza to share. The two of them also ordered soup, drinks and pasta. De You went one up and got garlic bread too. I didn't. I just got garlic bread and a drink. As I suspected, they didn't exactly have much space for pizza left after all that. I got an extra slice, while they cut the last piece into half to share, xD. They were full after eating all that. We then went shopping; De You bought three shirts, Sheila two, and me, none. xD Didn't matter. Chatted quite a bit the whole time. We went to the arcade next. Played a shooting game with giant bugs and machine guns with Sheila for a while. DY played it too, but I didn’t team up with him. He started playing first, and when he died, I took over. Then I watched them play Guitar Freaks. I hate the noise in that area, too damn noisy, you can't hear anything. Mario Kart was next, and I wasn't the last in a racing game for once! ^_^ We played Mario Kart twice, was last once, and second in the next race, Sheila won once, De You won once. So I still emerged biggest loser anyways, xD. But I'm happy anyway. I wasn't last for once. ^_^ We played that game where you smash buttons a lot last. I got booted first, naturally, De You next, and Sheila last. We went home after that. De You and I offered to send Sheila home, xD. But she obviously refused. We would have to follow her to Boon Lay, and then go all the way back to Tampines, xD. So we separated there. Went straight home.
The next day, I went to Suntec, alone, for the Games Convention Asia Student Talks. I listened to several big names in the games industry speak on stage. Some of the speakers were funny, some were boring. At the end, reps from several big studios, such as LucasArts, Ubisoft and EA, were part of a panel that was about how to break into the games industry. Also took time during the breaks to look at the GCA exhibitions. Played around with Far Cry 2 and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 on the Xbox 360, also saw Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (X360), Dead Space (X360), The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (X360) and Red Alert 3 (PC). All look awesome. Ain’t gonna buy ‘em though, except maybe Conquest. But yeah, I went off at 4+, back home. End of that.
Well, at least I have a couple of events to talk about that are coming up. I’m going out later today, with Jon and Darryl to some motor show at Suntec. It has to do with the Formula One races and cars, but I’m not sure exactly what’s going on, since Jon asked me to go, and I said I’d go. Never heard or knew of this beforehand. Will put a post up when I’m back.
And next Tuesday or Wednesday, I’m planning to go to KBox with as many of W24M as I can gather, which means it’s unlikely to be very many, but it is a public holiday, so I should be able to convince some to go. It should be fun. On second thought, it will be fun. Because Kbox is always fun! xD
Cheers, Kai Stormwind
9/8/2008 Clone Wars! Pool! Some extra random stuff!Watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars with Jon and Darryl on Saturday! We watched it at Cathay E-hub. The movie was awesome, not quite as good as Wall-E, but good nevertheless. More on that later. After the movie, we walked over to White Sands and browsed a couple of stores, looking at games, then we ate lunch. After lunch, made our way to Parkway Parade via a combination of MRT and bus. Once there, I played a game of air hockey against Jon. Lost 3-7. Bah. Then watched Darryl and Jon play Marvel vs Capcom against each other, and Jon kept winning. He lost to the computer though. I don't quite understand the appeal of 2D fighting games now that there are 3D fighting games, though. Ah well. Never mind.
After that, we were off to play pool! Met with Jeevan, Jason, Auggy and a few of the other guys, played a few matches. Lost against the tag team of Jon and Darryl by three balls. Played against Darryl, lost. Watched a couple of games. Then Jon and Darryl played against each other, and Darryl was doing poorly. Jon had the black ball left, and it was in a good position, close to a hole. To add to that, Darryl just fouled, and gave Jon a free ball. Jon promptly sank the black ball, with the white one following closely. Darryl won. XD Then Jon played against me. I sank two balls, he sank one, then I won when he sank another. A black one. He followed up with a third match, this time against Jeevan, and the fastest match played so far. I think it lasted all of thirty seconds. Jeevan broke, then on Jon's first turn, he shot the black and white balls both into the same hole, black first, white on black's heels. Totally awesome. He commited suicide for the three matches.
Well, after pool, we ate dinner. Me, Jon, Darryl, Jason and Auggy ate at a hawker centre, and all five of us ate char kway teow, XD. Then we went to Tampines Interchange on the same bus, then Jason left to go home his own way. The remaining four of us took 81 back.
Okay, now in other news. The Bullshit Commandmant and the Two Laws Of Bullshit.
The Bullshit Commandmant: Thou shalt bullshit.
The First Law Of Bullshit: A person without words shall lose marks unless acting while inspired by bullshit.
The Second Law Of Bullshit: Ignore questions you cannot answer.
Ex-W24M should know what the above refers to. Hakim came up with that, not me. ^_^
Okay, quick review for Clone Wars. Action packed, there's a really creative sequence involving a vertical assault up a mountainside. That was good. Lightsaber fights are here as well. The clone troopers also get into the action and kick some butt as well. All in all pretty good. But I felt something was lacking somehow. It was a little short, and the lightsaber duels didn't feel very intense. Maybe it's because George Lucas didn't direct. But he WAS an executive producer, though. Let's check the Stormwind-O-Meter... Stormwind-O-Meter: Star Wars: The Clone Wars...3.5/5 (Recommended for Star Wars fans, kids and if you like lightsabers.)
9/4/2008 Both good news...and bad news. This will be a very, very short post. Ex-W24M, if you're reading this, dread G102, or Cognitive Processes and Problem Solving II. I just went through one of the worst lessons of life. Like OMG. Seriously. Killer. I nearly died. God bless you guys, I hope you have capable teammates who can help you more than I can. I'll try to help as best as I can though.
On a side note, YAY! Going out on Saturday to watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars at Cathay E-hub! Watching it with Jon and Darryl. Expect a review of the movie soon. ^_^ On another side note, I got some hugs! 5 so far. Thanks to all of you who hugged me! Love you all. XD
Since this is so short, I'll end with another comic. You have to click on it to see it better, of course. Have fun and take care, people! ^_^
9/3/2008 New class...Wall-E...Quick, short update! Met my new class, E36K for the first time. They're nice, decent people, but the ex-W24M is much, much better. ^_^ Miss those guys, and love those guys. Miss those guys in class, I mean. Since I met most of the ex-W24M for lunch. My first module was Introduction to Communications Practice. Same as Geraldine and Bi Yan, I quickly finished my PPT, with the help of my teammates, who managed to keep pace, and sent it to the two of them as reference. Managed to finish the PPT, save for some minor editing, by the start of second break. Wasn't my fastest though, could have been faster. Jo and Sheila especially, should have many memories of being bored in class during the second break, because the PPT was all done. XD In any case, I really hope it helped the two of them. Going to help those who have ICP tomorrow as well. Currently, my only mission is to see the GPAs and grades of the ex-W24M improve. I also hope that they truly learn in their lessons and at the end, can say that they have learned. They can succeed, but are just unwilling to push themselves. Sometimes though, all they need is to discuss more. I worry for them, since I'm not around to take note of their class performance this time.
After school, I went to watch Wall-E at Causeway Point, together with Sheila, Emo, Geraldine and one of Geraldine's friends. Will be giving a review here. Brilliant movie, unlike what Marcus might say, with a deep, touching storyline and excellent CGI graphics, as expected from Pixar Animations. They do the some of the best CGI work around, and don't disaapoint. Some of the scenes, particularly those in space when Wall-E is hanging on to a space shuttle for dear life and yet also admiring the myriad, silent beauties of space. One thing about Wall-E, though he does not possess the fuzzy charms of a dog or fox or bear cub, for instance, to qoute another review I read, 'his is a Bambi-eyed bashfulness that is dedicated to love and friendship. WALL-E doesn't need to be cute to be liked. He just is.' These words sum Wall-E up quite nicely. Very adorable, and oh so full of kiddy charm. He is really much like the spirit of an inoocent, playful kid trapped in a robot's body. A kid who longs for love. Which he finds in the form of EVE, another robot sent to Earth to check if Earth is ready for re-colonisation. While Wall-E is rusty and muddy, EVE is sleek, clean and graceful, very different from him. Not gonna say much about the plot, save that because most of the movie is about these two central characters, there is much time for their personalities and characters to be developed. The supporting cast, not to be outdone, have their memorable moments too, particularly with Mop, a droid tasked with cleaning, and also an irresistable urge to clean dirt. In terms of character development, plot, graphics and sound, Pixar has woven a masterful tale of love and while I made no mention to this earlier, salvation. There ARE also humans in the movie, in case you were wondering. They're just...all fat. Very fat and unable to walk. Won't spoil anymore. Let's check the rating on the Stormwind-O-Meter....
Stormwind-O-Meter: Wall-E...4.5/5 (Highly recommended by meh! XD) |
